East League win for Sarah

There was success for Lothian Running Club in the final round of the East District Cross Country League at Broxburn on Saturday where Sarah Inglis led home 95 runners to win the Senior Women’s race.

Covering the 5.4km course in 20 minutes 23 seconds, Inglis crossed the finish line 20 seconds clear of second place Jennifer Wetton,Central AC,20.53 with Rebecca Burns Edinburgh AC in third place in 20.59.

Broxburn has proved to be a happy hunting ground for Sarah over the years having won as an under-17 in 2007, under-20 in 2010 and now as a senior. Her latest success comes a week after helping the East District to victory in the Inter-District Cross Country Championship in Edinburgh.

The only other LRC member in the women’s race was Kirsty McMeechan who finished in 89th place in 31.27. Despite having only two runners the Lothian girls still managed to finish a respectable 16th of 29 in the team competition on the day

There was a better turn out from the club in the Senior Men’s 8.1km with eleven members in action, they were led home in 42nd and 43 places by Malcolm Lang and Josh Dack respectively, Euan McInnes,Scott Nelson,Colin Eades and Ryan Ferguson were the other points scorers which saw the blue vests finish 13th out of 33 in the team standings.The Men’e race was won by Fife AC’s Logan Rees.

The Lothian club was represented in the Girls Under-13 2.7km race by Hannah Steel and Robyn McDonald with Hannah finishing 30th in 12 minutes 42 and Robyn 45th in 13m 20s.72. In the team competion the girls finished 13th of 19 teams.

A record 47 clubs contested this winter’s league with Falkirk Victoria winning the overall aggregate female trophy and Edinburgh AC’s the men’s eqivalent.
