Another busy weekend for Shona

It was another busy weekend for Lothian Running Club’s ultra runner Shona Young who ran a half marathon on  Saturday and a full marathon on Sunday.
The Touch of Tartan Half Marathon in Perth sees the runners start at Scone Airfield then follow a course which is a mixture of country lanes and footpaths before finishing on the North Inch. As the race title suggests all runners must wear a ‘touch of tartan’. In what she describes as her favourite half marathon course, Shona finished 10th female overall and 1st in the Super-Vet category.
Less than 24 hours later Shona was on the start line along with her brother Paul to contest the Hoad Hill Marathon in the Lake District. The race follows a mixture of trail, coastal path, canal towpath and quiet country lanes giving stunning views of the beautiful South Lakes and Morecambe Bay. The route starts and finishes at Ford Park, Ulverston with an inevitable climb to the iconic Sir John Barrow monument on top of Hoad Hill.
Paul finished 5th in 4 hours 04 minutes with Shona not far behind 4:09.36 which placed her 9th overall and first female finisher.
