FESTIVE HANDICAP
News
Festive Handicap and Cockleroy chaser.
Updated: 5th October 2009
Surely the best value race in Scotland (it's free), a race that anyone could win (it's handicapped) - the race is the Festive Frolicks Handicap, the date is Boxing day and the venue is Beecraigs country park.
The race involves either one or two seven kilometre loops around the scenic (and yes, hilly) Beecraigs country park - you are free to choose between the two distances. The course is mainly forest tracks and smaller paths, with very short sections of road, ideally suited to fell shoes but not spikes.
You will be given a handicap based on current form (recent race results), which determines your starting time - those doing a single loop will start later with the aim of having everyone finishing at around the same time.
For those with athletic youngsters (or those who want a shorter challenge), the Cockleroy Chaser will be taking place at 11:15 (cost 10p, entry on the day only). This race is part of the Junior Hill Fun Run Development series, suitable for ages 5-105. If you want to run with your youngsters it should still be possible to finish and take part in the seven kilometre loop yourself (if you have someone else to look after the young-uns).
While entry on the day is possible, pre-entry would give the organiser much less of a headache. Full details below.
