TRAIL TITLE TRIUMPH FOR EDEL

Lothian Running Club’s Edel Mooney took the Women’s title at the first ever running of the Scottish Trail Championship at Falkland in Fife on Saturday. Over a 10k course Edel came home over a minute clear of her nearest pursuer Jennifer Emsley, Central AC in a time of 39m 39s.

An advance look at the course at Falkland paid off.

‘I did a recce on the course and it was important because although the course starts off reasonable flat I knew there were some hilly sections later on,’ she said.
‘I just went along with the leaders for three or four miles and then took it on myself. I enjoyed it and I think for a first National Trail champs it was a good event.

‘There were decent entry numbers and hopefully it can grow in numbers from this starting point. Will I be back to defend my title next year? I hope so.’

Team mate Sarah Inglis just missed out on a medal coming home in 4th place in 42 minutes 53 seconds

Lana Turnbull completed the trio of club ladies in the race finishing 34th overall 4th Under-20 in 51m 05s.

In the Men’s Race which was run over 15k there was a category win for the Lothian Club’s only male entrant Mike Lieberman. Completing the course in 1h 07m 47s Mike finished 53rd overall and 1st in the MV60 category
