National XC [Report & Results]

The highlight of the cross country season took place at Callendar Park, Falkirk on Sunday with the annual staging of the Scottish Championships.
Despite the inclement weather the event attracted it’s biggest entry for 21 years with clubs from the length and breadth of the country in action.
Competitors had to contend with atrocious conditions of rain, sleet, wind and mud which turned the course into a true test of endurance.
10 races took place from under-13’s through to seniors with both individual and team medals up for grabs.
Lothian Running Club were represented in the Senior Men’s and Women’s races with Max McNeil and Edel Mooney both achieving top 20 finishes, Max finished in 18th place in the men’s 12k race with Edel 16th in the 8k women’s event. In the team competition the first six home from each club counted towards points in the men’s league with the first four the counters in the women’s, the LRC ladies team finished 10th out of a total of 27 teams with their male counterparts 21st out of 30 teams.
The Senior Scottish Champions for 2015 were Andrew Butchart, Central AC and Scottish based Australian Maddie Murray Edinburgh AC.
The Lothian club had it’s lowest ever turnout in the age-group races with only one competitor under the age of 21 in action, that was Nicole Dredge who finished 82nd of 168 finishers in the Girls Under-13 3200 metres race.
