Jo helps East District to XC Gold

There was some good performances from Lothian Running Club members at the weekend both indoors and out.
Jo Williams maintained her recent fine vein of form by helping the Scotland East team to gold medals at the Scottish Athletics Inter District Cross Country Championships at Holyrood Park,Edinburgh. Teams from East,West,North and Scottish Students were joined by a guest team from the North of England with the latter not counting for medals.
Williams who finished 9th overall and 5th Scot was also the second finisher for the East team covering the muddy 6k course in 23 minutes 13 seconds. With the first six finishers in each team counting towards the overall points scores it saw East take the title by a solitary one point from the West with the Scottish Students taking the bronze medals. The East scorers were Rebecca Burns[5],Jo Williams[9],Kayleigh Jarrett[10],Fanni Gyurko[12],Claire Stewart[14] and Catriona Buchanan[15]. The individual gold and silver medals went to the West’s Fionnuala Ross and Elspeth Curran with East’s Rebecca Burns taking the bronze.

Sadly Saturday’s event looks to be the last in Edinburgh with organisers Great Run looking for a new venue following a decision by City of Edinburgh Council not to continue their support for the event.
