Congratulations to all who represented the club in the first track meeting – for years ! The event was organised for and by all clubs in the Lothians (minus Livingston !) and aimed at middle distance – so 800m up to under 13 and 1500 over that. Races were organised on an open graded basis to try and ensure fair and even heats.
On a very warm but pleasant evening we had a team of 9 – would have bene more but for the holiday season. I have the full results and will try and post them somewhere (!) but am delighted to report a tale of real success for our little club. We had 3 heat winners – in the 800m Amber Cunningham (3.17.7) and Gaby O’Donnell (3.15.9) plus Danny Fletcher in his tough u13 1500 (5.32.10).
Adam Ikene was second (age 10 in an u13 heat) in his 800 (3.11.7) while Jonathan Collings ran a special 4.44 in a very competitive heat – his time would have won any of the other heats bar two.
Special mentions too to the younger members of the team who, aged 8 & barely 9 , were competing in 800m heats against others up to 4 years older – hats off to Rosie Stevenson (3.35), Hannah Knowles (3.43) and Isla Kelly (3.49) – all running with determination and a smile on their face. Also kudos to Rachel Collings clocking 3.21 finishing 3rd in her 800 heat – aged 8 !
So proud of them all – how they ran and how they represented us all. Pictures available on LRC Facebook page thanks to Alan Knowles. Thanks to all the grown ups for their support too – not an easy place to get to (and park !) that time of a Friday night.
Future is bright ! Hopefully more events soon – including shorter ones hopefully for our sprinters !
