LOTHIAN RUNNING CLUB 2010 REVIEW by SHANE FENTON.

JANUARY.

# Due to the inclement weather more events in the first half of the month were off than what was on.

#A late deciscion to run saw Scott Fraser finish 21st in the Edinburgh International XC.

#19 club athletes took part in the Devils Burden Hill Relays in Fife.

#Sarah Inglis had an excellent second half of the month, kicking off with victory in the East District XC league at Broxburn,that was followed by victory in the Celtic Nations XC in Antrim.

An 11th hour call up saw Sarah drafted in to represent the Commonwealth team at the televised Aviva International where she set a new indoor 3k PB.

Less than 24 hours later she was back in Glasgow where she took the Under-20 Scottish 4k XC title.

FEBRUARY

# The first Edinburgh parkrun of the month saw mother and daughter Mags & Lana Turnbull both set new PB’s.

Scott Balfour was 1st MV60.

# Ian Leggett was the only club runner in the Masters XC championship in Forres and was 1st MV70.

# Lana Turnbull recorded an 800 metres PB running at the Scottish Indoor Under-20 Championships in the Kelvin Hall.

# 26 club runners were in action at the National XC Championships, the mens team was 9th and the women 10th, Sarah Inglis took bronze in the Women’s Under-20 race.

#Alistair Robertson,Saran Jones and Kate Kitchin finished 1st 4th and 3rd overall as the curtain came down on the Borders XC series.

MARCH

# The first parkrun of the month saw Robert and Sarah Inglis finish 1st & 2nd with Sarah setting a new course record.

# Alison McQuillen was the only runner from the club at the Smokies 10 mile ladies only race in Arbroath.

# Lynne Murray ,Saran Jones and Jill Horsburgh secured team 3rd at the Lasswade 10 mile.

# Tosh Brannan was 1st in his category in the Bishops Hill Race.

# Sarah Inglis came home in 4th place in the McCains UK XC finals and World trials in Birmingham.

# Lynne Murray was 1st female vet at the Gartmorn 6, Lana Turnbull 2nd under-18, The Horsburgh family were all among the prizes, Iain was 2nd under 18 boy, Alice 2nd under-13 girl and not to be outdone on Mothers Day mum Jill was 1st female super vet.

#Despite falling Amy Lickley finished 5th out of 150 at the Edinburgh Primary Schools XC.

# The club was put on the map when it was announced Sarah Inglis had been selected to represent GB & Ireland at the World XC Championships in Poland.

To represent Great Britain in any sport is a great achievement, and a GB vest is the pinnacle of an athletes attainment, and for Sarah, her selection was just reward for all the hard work she puts into her athletics.

She went on to finish a brave 56th in the race itself.

# Saran Jones & Jill Horsburgh braved extreme cold and wet conditions to contest the Ultimate Cartmel 18k Trail Race.

Jill was 1st FV50 and won some large sticky toffee puddings, Saran was 3rd MV40 and beat Jill but didnt win some large Sticky toffee puddings!

APRIL

#Graeme Lawson and Lesley McGiffen ran the 10k and 5k at Beecraigs on Easter Sunday finishing 7th & 6th respectively.

# 2 wins and a 2nd saw Sarah Inglis win the overall womens title at the Isle of Man Easter Athletics Festival.

# Marie Storrie lowered her Parkrun PB to 21.37 and reduced it again to 21.26 a fortnight later.

# Alan Robertson and Saran Jones both had good runs in the Heaven & Hell Half Marathon in Perth.

# Lauren Arbuckle[800] & Robert Inglis [1500] lowered their PB’s at the East Region trials at Meadowbank.

# Representing Letham Primary Bethany Nelson finished 9th out of 128 in the Scottish Schools XC Championships.

# Club trio Alan Robertson, Mags Turnbull and Jim Alexander were among the brave 254 runners who contested the 53 mile Montane Highland Fling Race.

# Ross Milne finished in 67th place in the London Marathon in a good 2 hours 29 minutes 48 seconds.

MAY

# Julie Toner, Pauline Hughes. Mags Turnbull and Mary Inglis ran the Edinburgh to North Berwick 20 mile race with Mary first back.

# Kenton Jones made his parkrun debut and was the 1st club runner home on a very windy day along the waterfront.

# Chloe Cox & Jocelyn Moar finished 2nd & 5th in the Penicuik 10k, Brian Reid and Ian Hall represented the males.

# Brian Turner made a winning debut at the Strathclyde Parkrun.

# There was a good turn out of club juniors at the opening JSB league meeting.

# Darren Thomson set a new 200m PB of 23.71 at the Inter-Regional meeting in Wishaw.

# In sweltering conditions Scott Balfour was the M60 winner at the Edinburgh marathon, Scott Nelson, Ross McMaster and Jennifer Banks all set PB’s.

# Craig McDowell, Mhairi Inglis, Lana Turnbull and Max McNeil represented Forth Valley in the National Junior League.

# Running for Scotland at senior level in the 3000 metres at the Loughborough International Sarah Inglis was slightly disappointed with her run finishing in 11th place.

# Edel Mooney won the 6 mile Balerno Riggs Race.

# Christine Milne won the West Lothian Half Marathon.

# David and Carol Mabon both finished 2nd in their categories in the Livingston 5k race.

JUNE

# In the Deans Primary races Max McNeil won the mens 5k, Edel Mooney and Jocelyn Moar were 1st & 2nd in the Womens 5k and Nicola Kellock won the Womens 2k.

# There was a big club representation from the club at Markinch Highland Games with most going away with prizes.

# There was a marvellous turn out of 40 club runners for the clubs own Trail Race with Edel Mooney first female.

# Mags Turnbull was one of 106 brave finishers out of 160 starters in the gruelling West Highland Way race. An astonoshing 33 hours of running.

# Jill Horsburgh got 4 laps of a start and won the 3000 metres at the Ceres Games.

# Alex Agnew as he always does continued to fly the flag for the club at the midweek Self Transcendence races at the Meadows.

# Sarah Inglis finished 7th in the 3000m Aviva AAA Championships in Bedford.

JULY

# Craig McDowell set a new 1500m PB at the Dunren Open Graded meeting.

# Lauren Arbuckle won the youths 800m at Cupar Games.

# Kenton Jones & Mike Turnbull set parkrun PB’s

# Edel Mooney retained the womens title at the Crieff 10k.

#At a wind battered Pitreavie Stadium Sarah Inglis retained the Under-20 Womens Scottish 3000m title.

# Ted Finch was in action down South in the Brighton 5k parkrun and Chichester 15k Trail Race.

# Darren Thomson & Robert Inglis both had wins at both Loch Lomond and Thornton Games.

# The clubs ladies team beat their male counterparts in the Round Arran Relay Race.

# Alan Stewart won the 90m at Airth Games.

# Jocelyn Moar who hails from Orkney won the hilly Stromness 10k.

# Ian Leggett contested both the 10k and 5k at the European Masters in Budapest.

# In the 3 x 1 mile relays the ‘Bullet the Dog’ team of Max McNeil, Robert Inglis and Craig McDowell finished 2nd with the ‘Extremely Obese Fatties’ team of Amanda Campbell, Sarah and Mhairi Inglis winning the womens race.

AUGUST

# Max McNeil won the Scottish Gas 5k race in Edinburgh.

# Robert Inglis won the SHGA 3200m title at Montrose Games.

# Lauren Arbuckle won the youths 800m at Bridge of Allan Games.

# Mhairi Inglis did the double on the red ash track at Inverkeithing Games winning both the 800m and 1600m.

# The club ladies had a good day at the Forfar 10k, Edel Mooney won the individual title and along with Chloe Cox and Jocelyn Moar took the team 1st prize as well.

# Herbie McLean was was 1st MV60 in the 11 miles Lomonds of Fife Hill Race.

# Sarah Inglis did the treble of 800m, 1600m and 3200m at the Oban Games.

SEPTEMBER

# Brian Turner won the Strathclyde Parkrun.

# Bethany Nelson[1500] and Nicola Kellock [Shot Putt] won silver medals at the JSB Forth Valley Select meeting.

# The team of Saran Jones,Brian Reid, Jill Horsburgh, Iain Donnan and Ally Robertson won the mixed team category at the Comrie Hill Relays.

# Hannah Stewart won the Youths 400 metres at Pitlochry Games.

# Sarah Inglis won the Scottish Womens 10k title with a new PB on a rainy day in Stirling.

# Matt Richardson despite taking cramp and getting tangled up in barbed wire enjoyed his run in the 19 mile Two Breweries Race.

# Edel Mooney was sensationally disqualified after winning the Linlithgow 10k for apparently wearing the wrong right number!

OCTOBER

# Ross Milne finished 5th in Scotland’s first ever Kilomathon[16.3 miles].

# Lynne Murray finished 9th female and 3rd Scot in the Loch Ness Marathon.

#The clubs French based member Suzanne Matonti finished 3rd in the St Cloud 5k.

# The clubs new Hungarian recruit Josef Farkas made a winning debut in the Giffordtown 5k in Fife.

# The womens [A] team took bronze medals at the East District XC Relay Championships at Prestonpans.

# Neal Drummond ran the Munich Marathon.

# Mike Turnbull set a new PB at the parkrun.

# Suzie Hannah was the first ever female to represent the club at the Strathclyde Parkrun finishing 5th .

NOVEMBER

# Josef Farkas won the Buchlyvie Half Marathon, Paul Young also ran finishing 42nd.

# The club were well represented at the Scottish Highland Games Association’s annual awards dinner, Mhairi Inglis was named the SHGA ‘Outstanding Female Athlete’ for 2010, Robert Inglis, Darren Thomson and Hannah Stewart also picked up prizes.

DECEMBER

# The year would end as it started with the weather disrupting the athletics fixture list, and the first major casualty was the East Dstrict XC Championships in Aberdeen,

# It was announced the aforementioned championships were to be re-scheduled and would take place in Livingston in January.

# Another event to be called off was the club’s own Beecraig’s Festive Frolics Trail Race & Cockleroy Chaser Hill Fun Run which was due to take place on Boxing Day.
