Max just misses medal at Dundee XC

Lothian Running Club’s Max McNeil agonisingly just missed out in picking up a medal at the East District Cross Country Championship in Dundee on Saturday.
Running in the Senior Men’s race the club’s male captain produced another excellent run to cross the finish line in 4th place covering the 6 mile course within Camperdown Park in 32 minutes 46 seconds. Max did have the consolation however of being the first under-23 runner in the race. The club were well represented in the Men’s race with 12 runners in the line up, with the first six of those to complete the course counting towards the team event the club finished in a good 7th place.
Only three club runners made the start line for the 4 miles Senior Women’s race and it was Edel Mooney who led the trio home in 7th place in 24 minutes 47 seconds, Jo Williams wasn’t far behind in 17th place in 26 minutes 17 seconds with Christine MacVarish coming home in 54 place in 28 minutes 55 seconds. Unfortunately the ladies were one runner short in counting towards a place in the team competition.
The Men’s title was won by Murray Strain, Hunters Bog Trotters while Morag MacLarty, Central AC retained the Women’s title.
With the first eight runners home in each race gaining automatic qualification to represent the East District at the Inter-District Cross Country Championship at Holyrood Park in Edinburgh next month both Max and Edel should be selected if available. The race is part of the televised Great Edinburgh International meeting.
Mairi Eades, Nicole Dredge and Erin Steele represented the club in the junior races at Dundee.
