LRC FILL RACE VOID WITH SERIES OF VIRTUAL EVENTS

by Shane Fenton · July 28, 2020

LRC FILL RACE VOID WITH SERIES OF VIRTUAL EVENTS
With all the usual summer athletics events still off limits owing to the Covid 19 restrictions, Lothian Running Club are currently running a series of virtual races for club members to fill the void.
The series so far has comprised of a 5k and a one mile race. Competitors run remotely, similar to time trials. All the individual results are then forwarded to the race organiser and when tabulated the results are then announced.
The series comprises of male and female and scratch and handicap categories.
Points are awarded to finishing positions to form leagues.
The second race was the one mile event which saw Josh Dack record the quickest time of 4 minutes 49 seconds, Sam McIntosh was runner up in 4m 54s with Al Aitken in third place with a 4m 58s finishing time.
In the Women’s category Jo Williams recorded the fastest time of 5m 27s, Julie Atkinson was 2nd in 5m 51s and Andrea Cameron 3rd in 6m 01s.
Jonathon Collings ran a time of 6m 35s to take the win in the Junior event, with Danny Fletcher recording a 6m 57s in second place..
Peter West took first place in the handicap event with a handicap adjusted time of 3m 54s , Dawn Watson was not far behind as the winner of the female handicap with a 4m11s adjusted time.
After 2 events there was no change at the top of the handicap league with Judi Thomson extending her lead with a well placed 3rd in the mile handicap, whilst Stewart Laing retains the lead in the men’s league.
