CONTROVERSY AT LINLITHGOW

Updated: 2010-09-27
There was controversy at the close of the women’s race at Sunday’s Linlithgow 10k when Lothian Running Club’s Edel Mooney who was a clear winner of the race was sensationally disqualified. Edel apparently ran with the wrong right number, meaning she wore the correct number but not the official one. Rules are rules but it all seems a bit petty, it’s not as if she wasn’t entered and had just made a number up to run. Edel is also well known in running circles in the area, and regularly takes part in the local races. I wonder if it would have happened if she had finished 501st i dont think so. The club were well represented in the race with 19 members among the 512 finishers.

Linlithgow resident Steven Laurie was the first club runner home in 13th place in 37 minutes 27 seconds, followed by Scott Nelson 18th [38.34] and Kenton Jones 20th [38:57].

Jocelyn Moar led home the female contingent following the decision to to disqualify Edel, in 69th overall and 4th female in [42:30]next came Jill Horsburghj in 142nd [46.06] which placed her 13th female and runner up in the Senior Veteran Ladies category.
The race winners were Paul Sorrie Shettleston Harriers [31.45 and Janet Dunbar Portobello RC 39.23.
