ANOTHER MEDAL FOR SARAH AT BUCS

In her first competitive outing since a spell of warm weather training in Portugal Lothian Running Club’s Sarah Inglis got her 2011 track season off to an encouraging start by claiming a bronze medal at the British University & College Sports [BUCS] Track & Field Championships at Bedford over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Representing Edinburgh University where she has just completed her third year as PE student Sarah, contested the Womens 5000 metres, in which she was the only Scot in the line-up.
Running in the first of two heats on Saturday, Sarah was among a group of five athletes who broke clear from the rest of the field and qualified for the final comfortably in second place clocking 18 minutes 10.87 seconds.
With a strong wind buffetting around the Bedford International Stadium for Monday’s final a podium finish was always going to be more the goal than a good time for the 16 athletes on the start line.
That is how Sarah set out to run her race and was rewarded with an excellent third place and bronze medal crossing the finish line in 17 minutes 29,38 seconds behind English duo Louise Small[St Mary’s] and Hannah Walker[Birmingham].
The championships turned out to be a happy hunting ground for Scots athletes with many outstanding performances. The 2012 BUCS championships are to be staged at the new Olympic Stadium as a test event for  London 2012.
