Purpose

To offer an enjoyable run, on an exquisite route linking the Kettlestoun Mains Nature

Reserve, the John Muir Trail, and the Union Canal towpath.

Arrangements will be informal.

When

Wednesday 10th of June. Starts from 6.55pm.

Where

Xcite Linlithgow, with free use of changing shower and toilet facilities. Entries On the day from 5.45 to 6.45 at the football pavilion by the Excite car park.

Charge

There will be no charge, but there will be no prizes, except for the “mob” match.

Trail Race Details

• Special refreshment deal at the café in the main Xcite building.
• Trail race starts just inside the Nature Reserve gate, by the roundabout at the A803/B8029 junction, 200m from Xcite Linlithgow. Take care crossing A803.
• The Nature Reserve is fast going on good paths in places. Elsewhere it is rough and the paths are narrow and muddy after rain. The way through will be fully marked.
• The John Muir Trail is very clear, flat at first and climbing steeply towards the canal.
• The John Muir Trail and canal towpath are obvious and will not be marked.
• The finish is on the canal towpath by the south-east corner of the Xcite playing fields.
• The Fun Run starts and finishes on the tow-path where the trail race finishes.

 Mob Match

It is proposed to incorporate a “Mob Match” between teams “Linlithgow” and “Lothian” based roughly on two local clubs. You do not have to be a member and  can choose a team, or to be in neither team. Xcite members are very welcome.

At registration you will be given a number and allocated start time as follows:-

• Women aged 15-39 start @ 7pm, 40-44 @ 6.59, 45-49 @ 6.58, 50-54 @ 6.57, etc.
• Men aged 15-39 start @ 7.05pm, 40-44 @ 7.04, 45-49 @ 7.03, 50-54 @ 7.02, etc.
• Walkers are welcome to join in and start when they wish, but not in the mob match.

Fun Run Details

• Runners must be between 0 and 100 years old. Under 8 must be accompanied.
• The course starts on the towpath, where the Trail Race finishes and turns at the bargemen’s stables at 1500m. There will be a cheggpoint at the turn and another at half way to the turn (750m) and halfway back (2250m).
• Runners must collect an egg or bag of egglets (appropriately numbered) at each cheggpoint and take them to the finish to be checked.
• Runners may turn at cheggpoint 1 and so run only 1500m, for one chegg.
• Runners will start at one minute intervals between 7 and 7.10pm, in order to avoid congestion on the towpath and inconvenience to pedestrians. Please keep left.
• Start and finish times will be recorded, so that running times can be compared.
• Runners will be encouraged to record their own times.
