Successful debut Lana and Lucy
Lothian Running Club’s Lana Turnbull, along with her dog Lucy, made her first competitive venture into the sport of Canicross at the weekend.Canicross is the sport of cross country running with dogs, with the competitor having to run with either one or two dogs always attached to him or her, typically using a waist belt. The dog wears a harness, and the two are joined by a bungee chord or elastic line that reduces shock to both human and their canine team mate when the dog pulls. In their race debut over a hilly trail course at Plean Country Park in Stirling, Lana and Lucy made an impressive start as they placed third overall, with 72 teams completing the five kilometre course. The pair completed the course in a time of 19.25, which was also good enough to place them second in the female category and win the fastest female newcomer title.
